A new week of irrational behaviors in NBC’s The Irrational Season Two. After last week’s premiere, the show is looking to tamper the temperature down with the standard “case of the week” episodes. There are still chances for the story to develop as time goes on in this series. What kind of development will it take form? Who knows? Let’s discuss Alec Mercer’s (Jessie L. Smith) latest case involving teeth…Pretty irrational don’t you think?
Episode Two. “A Kick in the Teeth,” finds Mercer and Co. investigating a ‘knock-knock’ burglary. The difference is it’s a murder and the victim’s teeth were smashed in. While on the case, Rizwan (Arash DeMaxi) hires a new research assistant Simon Wylton (Max Lloyd-Jones), whose name is synonymous with the university he attends. Former research assistant Phoebe (Molly Kunz) is now working under Professor Rachel Myers (Jennifer Lines) and attending daily yoga sessions as she helps students like Ava (Kelcey Mawema) on their essay papers. Phoebe finds out that Prof. Myers is stealing Ava’s idea for a special project which leaves Phoebe concerned.
Meanwhile, Mercer and his ex-wife/FBI agent Marissa (Maahara Hill) follow their clues to a revelation that the people that the murderer is killing are all genetically related through dental records. They trace it back to a man named Steve Thomas who is currently in an unconscious state as a sperm donor. A friend and attorney of Steve tells them that the siblings are given $50 million of his fortune in the event of his death. Their line of information finally leads to the culprit of the entire case: Eric Dent (Juan Riedinger), who has a grudge against his father and his donor siblings. Mercer manages to coax Dent out of committing suicide before being taken into custody by the authorities.
Mercer’s sister Kyile, (Travina Springer) surprises Marissa with information that she will become the new head of the FBI. She was quite shocked about this decision given her previous belief that it would be another boring guy, but she seemed ready and willing to take the job. Simon is then officially hired after admitting that he lied for a couple of days due to his first day witnessing a crime scene. The episode ends with Mercer, Kyile, and rehabilitating burn victim from the first season, Izzy Coldby (Megan Best) celebrating. Mercer also admits that it may be time to consider laser surgery to get rid of his 15-year-old burn scars.
Another case closed in the books. I would rate this episode seven out of ten because of its low stakes but that is okay. We are only in the first two episodes and things will slowly become more hectic as time passes. In this week’s case, Rose Dinshaw (Karen David) will return under different circumstances than Alec. This will be a fun time when Episode Three of The Irrational Season Two premieres on NBC.
