If you’re a fan of drag, you probably are already aware of the draconian drag bills being proposed by lawmakers across the country. Instead of taking on real issues, these politicians are turning drag queens and trans women into scapegoats. These bills are only being drawn to distract from the various groups doing the real work of tearing down discrimination and hypocrisy in American society.

Tonight’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race is particularly poignant for this reason. Tonight’s Rusical episode focuses on a small town in which drag is at risk for being banned. According to the official description, “This season’s Rusical is set in the small town of West Bumtuck where drag has been outlawed so an underground alliance forms to try and defeat the bigots.” Take a look at the clip below.

World of Wonder has created the first-ever Drag Defense Fund in response to the efforts to silence drag artists and denigrate trans women. The fund, which has already received a donation from MTV and RuPaul’s Drag Race, will support the ACLU’s work to defend LGBTQ+ rights and keep them on the law books.

According to the ACLU:

The freedom to express ourselves and our gender identity in creative ways fuels artistry across our country and culture – and Drag is protected by the First Amendment like any creative expression such as dance, fashion, and music. That’s why RuPaul’s Drag Race, MTV, and World of Wonder are proud to donate to “The Drag Defense Fund” in support of the ACLU’s LGBTQ+ rights work.
