Apparently we’re getting a new Sade album after the eight long years since Soldier of Love! Rejoice!

As a longtime Sade fan, I couldn’t be more thrilled. According to OkayPlayer, Sade’s longtime collaborator Stuart Matthewman gave a little info in an interview to Rated R&B.

“We’re working on a new album,” he said, adding that they have “a bunch of songs” in the works. “When we’re happy, then we’ll let everyone else hear it,” he said.

Recently, I espoused on Sade’s torch singing abilities when comparing her vocal talents to BTS member Taehyung’s voice on the opening to Love Yourself: Tear, “Singularity.” For me, Sade is not only talented, but she represents a very nostalgic place in my mind since I first came to know Sade’s music through my dad. Hearing Sade immediately takes me back to when I was a kid growing up in the ’90s. It’s therefore quite interesting that someone as young as Taehyung has a voice that can propel me back to my own childhood. Indeed, as I wrote on Twitter recently:

How awesome would that be? It’d also be nice to have an album that cleanses the palette of music that’s been coming out recently. In fact, let me get on my personal soapbox here–these are just my opinions:

Speaking solely for myself, I’m ready for a break in the amount of diary-esque music that’s been coming out as of late. I won’t get into a big spiel about how I feel about today’s R&B, but in short, I feel like much of today’s R&B focuses on being “important” or “Twitter relevant” while not incorporating enough musicality, at least not for me. Yes, music can reveal truths about the artist–music is art, after all–but I just wish there was more focus on a musical hook and some atmosphere. Maybe I’m just too stuck in the past to get with today’s sound, but that’s just how I feel. Since Sade marches to the beat of her own drum, it’ll be great to hear an album from her that provides an alternative to the amount of diary music we’ve been getting.

In any case, Sade is amazing, and I can’t wait to hear what new offerings she’s got for us. Let’s hope the album comes out sooner rather than later.
