Horror season is around the corner and that creepy smile monster is back to scare audiences again in Smile 2.

The sequel finds fictitious pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) on the verge of a global tour until her high school friend Lewis Fregoli (Lewis Cage) passes the smiling monster on to her. Now, in constant torment, she is desperate to find a way out of her nightmare before it finally turns her crazy like every person who comes across this curse.

As the trailer suggests, audiences might learn the sordid history behind the psychological smiling monster. Like how the A Quiet Place franchise is to the Alien franchise, it is fascinating to see how a short film titled Laura Hasn’t Slept became a horror franchise akin to It Follows. What is similar to both franchises is that they both cover serious topics in a horror movie setting. It Follows is a metaphor for teenagers’ anxieties, trust, and fears, and Smile 2 is based on trauma and suicide. However, I will say if anyone feels they are in danger regarding their mental health, please do not watch this movie. If you need to reach out to someone, call the 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline.
