Apes are causing a glorious ruckus in the new Super Bowl trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Colonel McCollough’s (portrayed by Woody Harrelson in War for the Planet of the Apes) fears have come true. The apes are now the dominant species on planet Earth, and humans have become their cattle. At least one particular human named Nova (Freya Allan) is not behaving like cattle. Noa (Owen Teague) and some other chimps seem to be following in the footsteps of Caesar, believing that co-existence between apes and humans might be possible after all. This creates conflict with Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) who fears his insane dictatorship is threatened. It sounds a lot like the central conflict of the underlying plot of the original 1968  Planet of the Apes involving evolution, supremacy, racism, toxic deniability, and ignorance. Apes are seemingly following in the footsteps of humanity’s arrogance and possibly self-destruction. Who knows what will happen when the movie comes out on May 10th. Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
