As a sci-fi fan, I’m so excited for Jordan Peele’s streaming anthology show, Weird City.

First, there’s the fact that the first images of the city in question look like the cities of the future in Sim City, and I love Sim City.

Secondly, it’s got a whole slew of big actors, including Rosario Dawson, Auli’i Cravalho, Dylan O’Brien, Michael Cera, Ed O’Neill, Laverne Cox, Awkwafina, Sara Gilbert, Yvette Nicole Brown, Steven Yeun, and the big guns–Mark Hamill and LeVar Burton!

It doesn’t get much better than that.

Thirdly, it’s another project from Peele. Peele has a mind that works differently and more uniquely than most in Hollywood, as evidenced by Get Out and Us. This time, things are on a sci-fi/comedy route, but don’t think that any of Weird City is going to be any less creepy. Peele’s middle name is creepy; just take a look at almost every one of his Key and Peele skits. Even though they were comedy skits, they could get scary really, really scary.

Just like with the Us trailer, the trailer for Weird City tells us almost nothing about this anthology series. I will say that for once, the plot description for this show gives us more than other descriptions for Peele’s prior projects. In fact, here it is:

From the mind of Jordan Peele and Charlie Sanders comes WEIRD CITY, a satirical anthology set in the not-too-distant future metropolis of Weird. In this dystopian setting of our show, the middle class has completely vanished dividing Weird City into two sections: Above the Line (The Haves), and Below the Line (The Have Nots). Presiding over the denizens of the city is the strange and mysterious Dr. Negari, who weaves all of our stories together. Each episode is a topic that pertains to present day life in America and the world: social media addiction, online dating, fitness obsession, etc.. WEIRD CITY captures the unease of modern urban living, in a bizarre and peculiar lens.

But overall, there is a lot the trailer isn’t telling us, a lot that I’m sure we’ll be surprised by. As much as I don’t feel like shelling out money to get YouTube Red again, I’ll see if I can scrounge up the moolah to pay for one month, long enough to binge the series and end my subscription.
