FX is ready to premiere the next story of the Sons of Anarchy saga, Mayans M.C. Sept. 4. The show, featuring an all-star cast including Edward James Olmos, Danny Pino, Clayton Cardenas, Michael Irby, Carla Barrata, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo and Richard Cabral, promises engrossing dramatics, and according to these critics, the show delivers and then some. Check out what they had to say.

“With such strong performances, Mayans is a place much more than most series in the era of Peak TV where, to paraphrase one of the characters, the real world comes crashing in. Here the impact is even greater with disputes on the US/Mexican border, strange political bedfellows, the washing of dirty money and guilty consciences as well as hogs, betrayal, ruthlessness and regret.” —Dominic Patten

Mayans benefits from the richness of its source material, and for Sons fans it’ll fit like a well-worn kutte.” —Kristen Baldwin, Entertainment Weekly

“…Mayans M.C. doesn’t come entirely from Kurt Sutter’s mind, for he made sure to incorporate Latinx writers into the mix to downplay his own voice in the telling of this new saga…Overall, FX’s new arrival holds the potential to be more sweeping and heartbreaking than its predecessor, and Mayans M.C. (mostly) successfully distances itself from Sons while preserving its legacy.” —Kimberly Ricci, Uproxx

Mayans MC is a show gunning for a fanbase of its own. In no way it is demanding for the viewership of SoA fans (though it wouldn’t hurt). And that’s the right way to play this game.”–Merrill Barr, Forbes

I haven’t watched Sons of Anarchy, but I’m intrigued to watch Mayans M.C., whether or not I can pick up on the SoA Easter eggs. I’m ready for a new drama to get into, so I’m definitely going to give Mayans M.C. a go.
