The possibility of Black Panther film spinoffs is much higher than we might have expected. Of course, fans have been wanting more adventures with the women of Wakanda, but Black Panther director Ryan Coogler wants more as well.

“Oh man. That would be amazing if the opportunity came up,” he said at Cannes, according to Elle. “They did it in the comic-book version.”

“We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie,” he said. “Some of them have before!”

I’m with everyone who wants films strictly pertaining to the women of Wakanda. I’d want each woman to have their own solo film, each of which will launch spinoff franchises, culminating in a Phase 3 Infinity War situation, except no one gets killed. Instead of superheroes getting dusted, all that happens is that Wakanda’s superwomen pool their resources and skills together to defeat their mightiest foe–Madam Slay. Yes, women fighting women, women working together, women running the show on either sides of the “good versus evil” continuum. And then after the huge fight of fights, the cycle starts anew with a new set of Wakanda women-centric spin-offs, etc. I’m ready to see Shuri kill it as Black Panther with her mom Ramonda as her adviser, Nakia become a more socially-responsible version of James Bond (Nakia Bond?), the Dora Milaje continue to kill the game with their camaraderie and might. (But T’Challa had better not be dead, though. That I can’t abide by.)

If Marvel went with this idea of creating a Wakanda franchise, you’d better believe I’d be in the theaters on every opening night, popcorn or nacho tub in hand, ready to be transported into the soothing world of Wakanda.
