Happy day! In conjunction with the release of Amara La Negra’s new single, “Insecure,” she is the new cover girl of Latina Magazine!
“Breaking barriers!” wrote the singer on her Twitter page. “This is Such a Huge Moment For the #AfroLatino Community, for any girl they may look up to me. For anyone that can relate. Representation Matters! But Nothing is Impossible!”
This is, indeed, a barrier-breaking cover. As one Twitter user posted:

We know there’s a severe lack of Afro-Latina women on Latina‘s covers, and there’s a particular lack of dark-skinned Afro-Latina women like Amara La Negra. So to see her on the cover is bound to inspire girls who can finally say they have someone like them making it big and showing them anything is possible.
Here are more pictures from her Latina spread, as posted by Amara La Negra on her Twitter page.

@latina Mi Cuerpo es Arte! Por muchos años me sentia insegura de mi cuerpo de mis curvas de mis “imperfecciones” . La gente puede ser muy cruel con sus comentarios. Hasta que un día decidí Amarme! Querer me! Sin importar lo que los demas pensaran de mi. pic.twitter.com/TvnvGI0On3

It’s so heartening to see Amara La Negra break down these barriers, and I can’t wait to see where she goes next in her career!
