I have been a huge fan of RuPaul ever since I saw him on his own TV talk show, The RuPaul Show.
The ’90s was the era of RuPaul, and I remember him not just not his talk show, but also for his cameos on TV shows. Even though it’s not listed on IMDB, I distinctly remember seeing him on Robert Townsend’s family sitcom The Parent’Hood. Or maybe I’m confusing that show with Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper or something.
In any case, RuPaul’s been in a ton of shows, some of which surprised me, since I thought I would have recognized him. For instance, did you know he had a cameos in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch; Walker, Texas Ranger; Ugly Betty, had a recurring role on Nash Bridges and voiced a character on Disney’s cartoon show Hercules? That’s really just the tip of the iceberg with the amount of shows and films (like Crooklyn) RuPaul’s been in.
RuPaul’s just as popular as he’s ever been due to RuPaul’s Drag Race, a show I do watch religiously. RuPaul can certainly be called one of the main gay superstars to force America to look at gay culture as a part of American culture. I think we are a lot better off for what RuPaul has done.
