There’s quite a bit of casting news from this and last week. Here we go.
A new CW DC Comics series is in the works, and Broadway star Ciara Renée has been cast as Hawkgirl!
Nate Parker’s Nat Turner biopic project has been greenlit! The film is already set to star Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Gabrielle Union, and Roger Guenveur Smith (Empire State). If you didn’t already know, Nat Turner led the deadliest slave rebellion in American history.
Dwayne Johnson (otherwise known to 20 and 30-somethings as “The Rock”) will sing in Disney’s upcoming Polynesian-themed animated film, Moana.
Kenneth Choi, known for his work on Sons of Anarchy and Allegiance, will join the cast of horror-thriller film Stephanie.
Screenwriter Dwain Worrell will write the script for Mindcorp, written by Jose Padilha. Worrell is a screenwriter on the rise; his script is the first one Amazon Studios bought.
Chris Tucker and Vin Diesel has joined Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Tucker will play a movie producer and Diesel will play a soldier.
Captain Phillips star Barkhad Abdi will star in indie film The Wolf Who Cried Boy. The film is described as an “anti-coming of age story” about a boy who gets on the wrong side of the tracks. Abdi will play a limo driver with ties to the scrapping industry the boy is in.
Adam Beach, Karen Fukuhara and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje are in Suicide Squad! Akinnuoye-Agbaje is Killer Croc, while the other two have roles currently unknown to us. The cast picture (also featuring Will Smith, who’s playing Deadshot), was released this week.
