There’s quite a bit of casting news from this and last week. Here we go.

A new CW DC Comics series is in the works, and Broadway star Ciara Renée has been cast as Hawkgirl!

Nate Parker’s Nat Turner biopic project has been greenlit! The film is already set to star Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Gabrielle Union, and Roger Guenveur Smith (Empire State). If you didn’t already know, Nat Turner led the deadliest slave rebellion in American history.

Dwayne Johnson (otherwise known to 20 and 30-somethings as “The Rock”) will sing in Disney’s upcoming Polynesian-themed animated film, Moana.

Kenneth Choi, known for his work on Sons of Anarchy and Allegiance, will join the cast of horror-thriller film Stephanie

Screenwriter Dwain Worrell will write the script for Mindcorp, written by Jose Padilha. Worrell is a screenwriter on the rise; his script is the first one Amazon Studios bought.

Chris Tucker and Vin Diesel has joined Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Tucker will play a movie producer and Diesel will play a soldier.

Captain Phillips star Barkhad Abdi will star in indie film The Wolf Who Cried Boy. The film is described as an “anti-coming of age story” about a boy who gets on the wrong side of the tracks. Abdi will play a limo driver with ties to the scrapping industry the boy is in.

Adam Beach, Karen Fukuhara and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje are in Suicide Squad! Akinnuoye-Agbaje is Killer Croc, while the other two have roles currently unknown to us. The cast picture (also featuring Will Smith, who’s playing Deadshot), was released this week.

Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson is eyeing the role of King T’Chaka in Marvel’s Black Panther movie. This would definitely put Hudson on an even bigger platform than even Ghostbusters allowed him.
Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix drama, The Get Down, has an all black-adolescent cast. Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Skylan Brooks and Tremaine Brown Jr. will play South Bronx kids who become part of the artistic and musical movement in (I’m guessing the ’70s) New York.
Spike Lee is working on a new film called Chiraq, the nickname Chicago has received for having such a high death toll from gun violence. (“Chiraq” is a combination of the words “Chicago” and “Iraq”). The likes of Kanye West, Common, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Piven are eyeing starring roles.
HBO’s upcoming 10-episode series Ballers, starring Dwayne Johnson, Denzel Washington’s son John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon, Rob Corddry, and Arielle Kebble, is set for a June 21 premiere date.
James Wan, who has just come from his directing stint for Furious 7, is eyeing his potentially next directing job, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa.
Sofia Boutella, who is known for her role in Kingsman: The Secret Service, has just been cast in a mysterious role in Star Trek 3which will be directed by Justin Lin.
