Anika Noni Rose is getting the WOC Wednesday honor this week! She’s been the first black Disney princess, a big TV star in The Good Wife and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency and others, a huge Broadway star (of course), and now, she’s a power-player in Hollywood TV pilot season.
Deadline has announced that Rose has optioned the TV/Film rights to the fantasy series Bone Street Rumba by Daniel José Older. The option comes from Rose’s production company, Roaring Virgin Productions.
The story focuses on Carlos Delacruz, an agent for the “New York Council Of The Dead.” Delacruz is in limbo after his death, and he comes upon others in his similar predicament. The first book, Half-Resurrection Blues, which was released Jan. 6 by Roc Books (a Penguin imprint). The next book in the series, Midnight Taxi Tango, will be released next January.
I haven’t read this series, so I guess I’ve got a new book to read. What do you think about this news? Give your opinions in the comments section below.
